"Man's task is to become conscious of the contents that press upward from the unconscious." (C. Jung)

What is e-Therapy?
e-Therapy, and telephone counselling (via Skype) have benefits that face-to-face therapy do not have. Firstly, it breaks down physical mobility and geographical barriers, providing flexible appointment times.

Perhaps you would be more comfortable discussing significant issues without someone sitting in front of you as you can express your feelings openly online or on the phone from the comfort of your own home or office.

Who Uses e-Therapy?
This method may be useful for those of you who suffer from shyness, live in remote areas, maybe you are trapped in the home due to disability or a phobia. Also, people on the autistic spectrum who sometimes have difficulty relating find this method of communication more comfortable and it is a useful tool for the hearing impaired.

For e-therapy, you must be comfortable with writing and enjoy expressing yourself using the written word. In order to make use of telephone counselling you must be comfortable with expressing yourself verbally.

Problems with e-therapy / telephone counselling
  • Lack of the visual or verbal cues that are part of a relationship.
  • Unable to respond to crises/suicidal behaviour.
  • Lack of "the human factor". A smile or laugh when it may be comforting.
